You will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (the University's Federal School Code is 001775). Students must be admitted as degree-seeking in order to be eligible. There are no assistantships or tuition waivers available for the online graduate program.
Online graduate students are eligible to apply for the departmental scholarships available to all NRES graduate students. You can find more information on scholarships here.
The deadlines for getting a refund of tuition and fees after cancelling your registration, withdrawing from the University, or dropping a course are very strictly enforced. The deadline for cancelling your registration is 5:00 pm the day before the first day of classes for the semester. The deadlines for a refund when withdrawing or dropping a course are a few days into the semester (10 days for a standard 16 week semester; fewer for shorter courses). The deadlines vary from semester to semester, so be sure to check http://www.registrar.illinois.edu/financial/refunds.html for the deadlines in the relevant semester.
