Students Create Carbon Registry Site

Students in NRES 199 Build a Campus Carbon Registry spent the spring 2009 semester creating a local carbon market and developing a carbon-offset program for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus. This effort, funded by the Student Sustainability Committee, focused on the detailed analysis of three potential campus projects: the student farm, automatic lighting sensors, and thin client PCs. The results of the course are detailed on the student created web site. In addition, the students presented their project at the Environmental Change Institute’s Cap and Trade Summit on May 28, 2009.

Students interested in learning more and participating in the future development of this project are invited to enroll in Fall 2009. We are offering NRES 294 Carbon Registry Internship for undergraduates and NRES 499 Carbon Registry Internship for graduate students.
