Why Illinois? – What factors helped contribute to your decision to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign?
At the beginning, I didn't have much preference in choosing a school. All I wanted was to attend a big university where I can meet more people. Thankfully, the University of Illinois provides me that. Also, UIUC has a high reputation and ranking in my country and many of my friends suggested that I go. I heard the environmental program there is good. And I wanted to experience its extreme weather in the winter. After living in a "never-snow" city for 18 years, I wanted to challenge myself to live in a cold city. Therefore, Illinois is an ideal place.
Why NRES? – Specifically, why did you choose to study Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences?
I have no doubt about my major, and I consider it as a potentially promising future because environmental issues must not be overlooked. Environmental concepts flow in my daily life, from small recycling things to an individual sustainability project that enthuses me. Moreover, I like both outdoor research and networking with people. So I think Human Dimensions of the Environment will be perfect for me.
