Why Illinois? – What factors helped contribute to your decision to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign?
The University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign is an institution built off of history, and continues to create it. I wanted to be a part of a community that strives to continue groundbreaking research and discoveries that are so diverse in what can be studied yet integrates it all so well. Very few places are able to meet at the intersection of world class engineering, environmental science, chemistry, and biology to foster such an educationally rich experience in the way UIUC does.
Why NRES? – Specifically, why did you choose to study Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences?
As a transfer student into this program this is an idea I have grappled with for a very long time. What it came down to for me is the desire to make a positive and lasting change in the world and give back to it in some way. Working with the relationship between people and the environment is something I see as not only fascinating, but also necessary. I have always been passionate about science, and the inherent multidisciplinary characteristics of environmental science will ensure I will be kept occupied with plenty of things to learn and plenty of questions to ask. Complementary with that I will always be able to surround myself with like-minded individuals prepared to tackle the issues we all face to build a sustainable and healthy world.
