Why Illinois? – What factors helped contribute to your decision to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign?
Although I applied to many schools and originally thought I would attend a school out of state, I ultimately decided Illinois was the place for me. It is just far enough away from home, and it has so much to offer. I could not pass up the opportunity to attend a University
with prestige, diversity, and a wealth of opportunities for students. There is something for everyone here, and although it is a big school, there are plenty of ways to find your own niche and create lifelong friendships. As soon as I attended orientation, I knew Illinois was
the right fit for me. I could not be happier here, and I am proud to be an Illini!
Why NRES? – Specifically, why did you choose to study Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences?
I came to Illinois as a student in the Division of General Studies. I had interest in the College of ACES and took general education courses with ACES in mind during my freshman year. Ultimately I chose NRES because I realized there are a variety of career options within the field of Natural Resource Management and Environmental Sciences that interest me. I enjoy the outdoors and have always had concern for the environment. NRES is where I am able to work toward the completion of a meaningful degree while gaining the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to pursue a career where I can impact the environment in a positive way.
