Outstanding Senior

Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences presents awards to the outstanding senior in each of its four concentrations each year. Seniors who will graduate in that calendar year who have an Illinois grade point average of at least 3.25 are eligible to apply. All students with senior standing and an eligible GPA will receive an invitation to apply in February with instructions. From the applications, a committee of the NRES faculty select one senior in each concentration based on the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement
  • Service to and activity within the Department of NRES, including any NRES-related clubs
  • Professional development activities, such as undergraduate research, NRES-related job/internship, completion of relevant professional skills trainings, environmental/natural resource management volunteer activities, etc.
  • Service to and activity within the College of ACES and/or the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

At the faculty committee's discretion, there may be no award or an award may be split between multiple recipients.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences in the College of ACES at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
